Legal Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-06-06. Plain-English version below; the formal text is what's enforceable.
1. Who you are dealing with
CutShit ("we", "us") is the project behind this site and app. If you need a real entity, you can find registration details in our repo. For most people this just means: if you have a problem, email support@cutshit.net and a human will reply within one business day.
2. The deal in one paragraph
You can use the Free build for personal and commercial projects — no royalty, no attribution, no watermark, no upload. Pro is a one-time $19.99 lifetime license (not a subscription) that unlocks the advanced/AI features. Buy it once, use it forever on your own devices. No monthly fees, no hidden clauses. "Own it, don't rent it."
3. Things you agree to
- You'll use the editor in a way that doesn't break the law (don't make deepfakes of real people without consent, don't use it to ship malware, etc.).
- You'll keep your Pro license to yourself — it's for you and your own devices, not your whole Discord.
- You won't reverse-engineer the proprietary parts (the AI caption engine, the encoder presets). The rest of the app is open-source under MIT.
4. Things we agree to
- We'll keep the editor working. If we shut it down, we'll open-source the last working build so you can keep using it.
- We won't sell your content or your personal data. Our full policy is on the privacy page.
- Refunds are handled by the Microsoft Store under Microsoft's policy; see our refund policy.
5. Beta access
During the closed beta, access is granted by a beta key issued by the team. Keys are personal, may be rate-limited, and can be revoked at the end of beta or for misuse. Beta builds are pre-release and provided as-is; features can change or break.
6. Liability
The editor is provided "as is". We work hard to make it stable, but video editing is complex, your hardware is weird, and the laws of physics still apply. Our maximum liability is the amount you paid for Pro in the last 12 months. This section doesn't try to limit liability for things we can't legally limit (fraud, gross negligence, personal injury).
7. Updates to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll post the update here and, for Pro buyers we can reach, give reasonable notice before it takes effect. The Free build runs under whatever terms are on this page when you downloaded it.
8. Disputes
Most disputes are a one-line email and we sort it out. If we end up in court, the venue is the courts of the user's place of residence. The governing law is the law of the user's place of residence, except where local law requires otherwise (consumer protection wins).
9. Plain-English summary
Free editor, $19.99 lifetime Pro, your footage stays on your machine. Don't ship deepfakes or malware, don't pirate the AI engine, email us if something's wrong. We'll probably fix it.
Cut. Caption. Ship.
Free trial on the Microsoft Store, then a one-time $19.99 for everyone — lifetime, not a subscription. Beta testers announced on X on 12 July 2026.
